Dal Palak

INGREDIENTS

  • Split gram (Channe ki dal) - 1/2 cup
  • Spinach (palak) - 1/2 kg
  • Tomatoes - 2
  • Green chillies (chopped) -2
  • Ginger (chopped) -1/2 " piece
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Onion (chopped) - 1

METHOD

  1. Soak dal for half an hour.
  2. Wash and chop palak leaves. Discard the stem.
  3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Fry onions till golden brown.
  4. Strain the soaked dal. Add dal, palak and all other ingredients, including the spices into the cooker.
  5. Cook for 1 minute. Add 1/2 cup water.
  6. Pressure cook to give 2 whistles, then cook on low heat for 8-10 minutes.
  7. After the pressure comes down, mash the dal slightly.
  8. Serve hot with boiled rice or roti.
