Mughlai Dal

INGREDIENTS

  • Split black beans (Dhuli urad dal) - 1 1/2 cups
  • Water - 3 1/2 cups
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Cottage Cheese (Paneer) - 100 gms cut into cubes and fried
  • Black pepper - 1 tsp
  • Green chillies (finely chopped) - 2
  • C oriander leaves (chopped) - 2tbsp
  • Cumin seeds (jeera) - 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger (chopped) - 2 tsp
  • Small Onion (finely chopped) - 1
  • Tomato (finely choped without pulp) - 1
  • Ghee or oil - 4tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Cream - 1/4 cup

METHOD

  1. Soak Black beans for 1 hour.
  2. Boil water with turmeric and salt.
  3. Add soaked dal, fried paneer and cook till the dal becomes tender and each grain is separate.
  4. Now put dal in a strainer so that excess water may be removed. Keep aside.
  5. Fry chopped onion in ghee till it turns light brown. Add ginger and fry.
  6. Add jeera and fry for a second and mix with the dal.
  7. Add finely chopped green chillies and coriander leaves to the dal.
  8. At teh time of serving put the dal in a dish and sprinkle chopped tomato without pulp and then pour the cream over it.
